Although her formal launch party is postponed until after the global pandemic wanes, Roe Shadow did slip into the water for the first time last week. She is the newest Lynx YXT 24 Evolution motoryacht, a shadow vessel.
The YXT 24 Evolution series, which counts an American among its buyers, sprang from the desire to create a small, semi-custom series to hold abundant watertoys, as well as extra staterooms and crew cabins. Despite the model name, the LOA for Roe Shadow is 89’6” (27.3 meters). However, her 807-square-foot (75-square-meter) main deck holds a Pascoe beach landing craft and two PWCs. A hefty knuckle-boom crane sits on deck to launch them, too. Inside the lazarette, a locker keeps kiteboards, scuba equipment, surfboards, and stand-up paddleboards. Inflatable toys are in here, too. Yet another room inside Roe Shadow stows wetsuits, kitesails, and more gear. A room opposite it serves as a cleaning station for all these accoutrements.
Interestingly, Roe Shadow doesn’t have any guest accommodations, despite serving as a big play area for guests. Friends and family who grab dive gear from the surf locker can walk straight out onto the swim platform, via a hatch. When the toys are off the main deck, guests can use it for lounging, cocktails, or dining, thanks to a barbecue. Additionally, the four crewmembers who stay aboard can set up a 100-inch outdoor screen for movie nights.
With interior design by Darnet Design, Roe Shadow is really a crew-centric vessel. She has a large crew mess further containing three refrigerators and three freezers. This allows her mothership (unnamed by Lynx Yachts) to stay independent for longer periods. A large crew laundry even has three washing machines and three dryers.
Sea trials should prove Roe Shadow capable of a 12-knot cruising speed under twin 800-hp MAN power.
Her owner will take delivery in April. Perhaps by then a proper launch celebration with the shipyard staff can take place.
