Upon delivery in 2021, the third Amels 200 will actually be a first. The megayacht will be the first-ever Amels project to feature interior design by Laura Pomponi and the staff of designers at Luxury Projects, which she founded.
With a healthy gross tonnage of 970, this model in the Limited Editions series measures 197 feet (60 meters). Similar to her smaller and larger sisters, she features styling from the drawing boards of Tim Heywood.
Pomponi, who handled the refit of the classic replica Nero several years ago, has created an understated elegance for the owners and guests. Particularly, pale wood soles as well as similarly light-tone materials for walls and overheads characterize this third Amels 200. In addition, the mood makes common areas and private areas more welcoming. For example, it creates a coziness in the lounge area adjacent to the sleeping area in the owner’s suite. It also makes meals in the formal dining area (above), working out in the sundeck gym, and relaxing in the beach club more enjoyable. Augmenting the owner’s enjoyment, this third Amels 200 features a hybrid-power system like Volpini 2, which saw delivery in 2018.
Interestingly, this third Amels 200 sees delivery relatively close to the same time period as the second hull in the series. On a related note, Amels and the yachting facilities for its parent company, Damen, remain operational during the global pandemic. Specifically, the staffs are following Dutch government guidelines for wearing personal protective equipment. Furthermore, they are following the guidelines for avoiding physical proximity. Some craftspeople therefore are still at the shipyard, while the management team, designers, and engineers are working from their homes. Managing director Rose Damen points to how the staff and suppliers are collaborating in this regard. “It gives me a lot of confidence that we will get through this crisis in our industry together,” she says.
