Technical launches don’t attract the same type of fanfare as official launch ceremonies do. Nonetheless, they are important milestones for those of you who are yacht watchers, and of course the shipyards and owners themselves. May 26 marked an important milestone for the owners of the still-confidential Lürssen Project 1601. She came out of her shipyard into the daylight for the first time the old-fashioned way, sliding down the slipway.
Coming in at 295 feet overall (90 meters), Project 1601 is still just a steel hull and joined aluminum superstructure. However, you can see hints of what her exterior styling will eventually fully look like. Espen Oeino penned her lines, which seem to feature prominent windows along the upper deck. Regardless, you can see plenty of angular lines and straight runs, too.
This planar, linear nature continues inside the megayacht as well. The owners are working with Dölker + Voges to ensure the thematic consistency. Unfortunately, no other details are available at this time about the decor, or the general arrangement. However, the spaces should look and feel comfortable once the owners and guests get to indulge in them, considering Project 1601 has a beam of 48 feet (14.7 meters). Also, as a point of reference, the design team has worked on previous Lürssen yachts, such as Dilbar.
Under the project management of Cornelsen & Partner, Lürssen Project 1601 is continuing construction back under wraps. Shortly after sliding down the ways, she made her way into a floating dock. The yard says she’ll stay there until next spring.
