“We are delighted with Haze, she looks fantastic.” Jordi Wilkes, the owner’s representative, shared this enthusiastic assessment yesterday during the launch ceremony. “The chosen exterior paint color and finish just enhances the wow factor.”
The wow factor for this Extra 86 includes an elongated, wide-open aft deck, plus sporty styling. They were exactly what the owner was seeking when he began assembling a team to find a new yacht. In fact, he asked George Wolstenholme, senior designer for Lawson Robb, to find megayacht models with these features. He further wanted an easy flow from room to room inside, straight through to alfresco areas. When Wolstenholme discovered the Extra 86’s 86-foot (26.2-meter) LOA and general arrangement, he knew the owner would be happy.
Originally an ISA Yachts series, but spun off to become its own brand, Extra Yachts emphasizes extra-open entertainment space. Therefore, Haze has a 258-square-foot (24-square-meter) flying bridge, complete with a bar, barbecue, and sunpads, plus a helm. A bimini can shade the owners and guests when wanted. The same is true for the long, open aft deck and foredeck. Additionally, Haze’s aft deck will be the place to gather frequently at night. The owner requested a projector to turn the area into an alfresco cinema.
For the interior of Haze, Lawson Robb arranged the saloon so that a treasured piece of art from the owner’s collection would be a focal point. The galley is a focal point, too, outfitted in white marble. It’s also as welcoming to the guests as it is a work space for the chef. Overall, the owner wanted his Extra 86 to look and feel more like a penthouse on the water than a place with formal separation between guests and crew. Six friends and family can comprise those guests.
On the technical front, the yacht relies on solar energy to power lighting and a variety of other low-draw items plugged into sockets.
“We are confident the yacht will provide some fantastic experiences,” Wilkes adds. Those experiences should primarily involve the Mediterranean, under a reported cruising speed of 16 knots with Volvo Penta IPS engines.
