A boater who enjoys speed as much as he does sparring with the founder of Vanquish Yachts (all in good fun, of course) is behind the builder’s largest-ever project, a VQ115 Veloce. This 115-footer (35-meter) will be blistering fast, too, projected to hit a 53-knot top end.
Eight-year-old Vanquish Yachts builds all-aluminum, high-performance motoryachts. Since opening its doors, it has delivered a number of owner-operated craft up to 49 feet (14.95 meters). Although it has megayacht models in the design stage, the VQ115 Veloce is the largest contract. In fact, this new build results from a discussion the owner, a current Vanquish customer, started with Tom Steentjes, Vanquish’s founder, about one of those designs, the VQ90. Specifically, the customer liked how she suited entertaining big parties and staying away from shore for good periods. However, as commonly happens, the owner wanted to add a few things. The addition of another stateroom, a dedicated dining area, and two toy garages stretched the project to the current length.
Interestingly, the dining area—part of the country kitchen—accompanies three staterooms below decks. A media room sits down below, too, convertible to a fourth stateroom via Pullmans if needed. The unexpected layout is a customization benefit that Vanquish Yachts offers to all of its buyers. As for the main deck, the owner of the VQ115 Veloce set aside space for an office for when he wishes to work. The deck additionally features a pantry with a cocktail bar. And, for the indoor-outdoor feel so many people enjoy, the aft-deck doors can remain open. Further tying in that feel, the same sole materials are inside and outside.
While Vanquish Yachts hasn’t yet released interior renderings, it does characterize the decor as having “a casual groove,” further with “a futuristic style” complementing Guido de Groot’s angular exterior styling.
What will really set this VQ115 Veloce apart, however, is her performance. The slender hull contains triple MTUs paired with surface drives. Notably, no gas turbines here. With the naval-architecture input of Studio Delta, the megayacht should additionally be upwards of 15 percent more efficient at top speeds compared to similarly powered, similarly sized projects. Plus, Vanquish Yachts anticipates a best range around 600 nautical miles when running on one or two engines at more traditional leisurely speeds.
Look for this speedy superyacht, with ample alfresco entertaining areas, to pursue her maiden cruises in the Med in 2022. Thereafter, the owner plans to ship her to the Caribbean, with New York’s Hamptons on his radar for summertime 2023. Accompanying her on her voyages: a VQ16 tender and VQ11 water scooter, each also from Vanquish Yachts.
Interestingly, Vanquish Yachts plans to start two additional VQ115s on spec soon. However, buyers can still customize styling and interior design. Furthermore, somewhat slower speeds are possible.
