Days from now, Chicago-based cruisers are taking delivery of their largest yacht to date, an Ocean Alexander 28R. Rather than use the megayacht in the Windy City, however, they’re heading to the Bahamas. Even more noteworthy, though, the delivery is a classic case of sibling oneupmanship.
According to Scott Douglas, their broker at MarineMax, the owners enjoy spending time in both the Bahamas and North Carolina. “The owners just became empty nesters and were looking forward to their next adventure in life,” he continues. Last year, they purchased a nearly 40-foot (12.04-meter) Sea Ray from him. A family member, meanwhile, purchased a yacht around the same time through Douglas, too, specifically an Ocean Alexander 70e. “They ended up falling in love with the brother’s 70e, and we all know sibling rivalry, so they bought an Ocean Alexander as well!” Douglas says.
The Ocean Alexander 28R, a.k.a. the Ocean Alexander 90R, represents a radical departure in styling for the builder, with angular, assertive lines and a raised bow. She also has the most extensive use of glass on any of its models, nearly floor to ceiling on the main deck. Additionally, the 92’5” (28.2-meter) megayacht has a dedicated beach club, with a full-height glass entry and glass extending overhead, too. A transformer swim platform complements it, making the area more versatile throughout the day.
Since the Ocean Alexander 28R is semi-custom, these owners took advantage of making her suit their active lifestyle. So, for instance, they mapped out space to stow several watertoys. A Boston Whaler 330 Outrage serves as the primary tender, while a smaller dinghy, PWCs, and SeaBobs are aboard as well. They also outfitted the megayacht with dive gear, since they enjoy scuba diving. While diving and fishing keep them engaged and fit on the water, when they’re back onboard, they plan to use a Tonal “smart” gym installed in one of the rooms.
“Their team is so accommodating, and it was a pleasure to work with them,” Douglas says of Ocean Alexander.
