Superyacht shipyards and designers continue to play with lengths and volumes to enhance the cruising experience while simultaneously keeping regulatory compliance simpler. With Team for Design – Enrico Gobbi, Rossinavi is offering the Portofino 52 concept. At 499 gross tons and 171 feet (52 meters), she strikes a balance between the two needs.
One of the biggest—literally—attractions aboard the megayacht is the sundeck. Spanning nearly 1,400 square feet (130 square meters), it sets aside half the space for shady socialization. A hardtop covers equally expansive dining and seating areas. They’re ideal for lunches at anchor or watching destinations come into closer view. The Portofino 52 additionally includes a bar here, so you and your guests can enjoy cocktails or soft drinks while sunning. Then, turn the sundeck into a dance floor come nighttime, still with the libations flowing.

Speaking of nighttime, how about some midnight movies? Gobbi and Rossinavi (who collaborated on Piacere) know how much megayacht clients have really embraced private cinemas in recent years. Therefore, they chose to turn this project’s upper deck into an outdoor cinema, forward (top). It comes complete with a firepit, too, so that you and your family can still watch your favorite classics or cartoons on chilly nights.
In fact, the Rossinavi Portofino 52 is imagined for family-friendly fun. For instance, picture your kids splashing around in the main-deck pool, with waterjets as well. The pool has a glass front as well as a glass bottom. That bottom brings light down into the capacious beach club (below). It’s 646 square feet (60 square meters). It, too, is perfect for you and the kids to enjoy. They’ll likely take turns jumping off the swim platform into the sea. Or, they can use the platform to board the watertoys, which stow in a concealed garage in the foredeck. Regardless, you and the other adults can spread out between the seating area inside and easily set-up seating on the opening platforms to three sides. Of course, for grown-up enjoyment, there’s further a sauna and a bar.

When the kids conk out at the end of an active day in their equal-size staterooms below decks, the Portofino 52 still caters to you and the other grownups. Enjoy the skylounge, for example, with a purposely striking wine and cigar bar. When you’re ready to retire for the night, you have a full beam (29 feet/8.9 meters) suite waiting for you on the main deck. Design it as you wish, or use either of the two suggested layouts from Rossinavi and Gobbi. In one, a large dressing area is just inside the entry. In the other, meanwhile, the area is a private office. Either way, total square footage is 538 (50 square meters).
The all-aluminum Portofino 52 is not just a concept. The megayacht is ready for construction, pledging a 4,000-nautical-mile range at 10 knots. The full-displacement project also promises a 15-knot top end and 12-knot cruising speed under Caterpillar power.
