Megayachts have extensive music and movie collections onboard. Many even let you use your own mobile devices for entertainment. But what if your entire home media collection could be at your fingertips on every yacht you board, anywhere in the world? That’s the premise behind onmiyon, created by YachtCloud, a company that tailors AV and IT needs for yachts.
YachtCloud is the same company behind a few digital products making things more convenient for owners, crew, yacht managers, and related personnel. Among them is CrewBoard, a digital “who’s on/off duty” board that can be integrated with the security system, used by a few megayachts so far. As for omniyon, it allows you to upload your favorite songs, movies, and TV shows to the cloud. Through its partners, which include MTN, Ideaworks, and Icon Connect, you can then download and enjoy.
If this doesn’t strike you as being different, there is a difference. Many an owner, guest, and crewmember can tell you stories of frustratingly slow and long downloads over satellite. YachtCloud says omniyon provides reliable usage and is up to the high-bandwidth demands. It developed omniyon with its partners, too, to ensure this would happen. Even better, YachtCloud says the system has already been tested and proven on a few megayachts so far.
Among the benefits of omniyon: unlimited users and locations; mobile streaming to Apple and Android devices; multiple languages (English, Russian, Arabic, and Chinese) displayed on the system screen; and ‘round-the-clock remote and onsite monitoring for quality and usability.
YachtCloud cautions that you should ensure you’re in compliance with copyright law when importing, listening to, and/or watching the content you choose. The omniyon service does, though, reportedly fall in line with what’s commonly called home copying exceptions.
You can see a demo of omniyon at next week’s Monaco Yacht Show at the Icon Connect display, too.
