“The introduction of the Amels 80 will go down as a very special moment in the history of our Amels Limited Editions legacy,” asserts Rose Damen, Damen Yachting’s managing director. It’s as much for the lifestyle amenities as it is for the more ecologically minded décor and technology.
Though she’s part of the Limited Editions series, the 261-footer (80-meter) has a naval-architecture package all her own. The build and design teams, including Espen Øino’s studio for styling, worked on the Amels 80 concept for two years to finalize details. “She is a big ship, full of features, with an impressive interior volume at 2,175 gross tonnage,” Øino says. “She is everything and more that you will expect from an 80-meter yacht.” That includes six decks, such as the 2,153-square-foot (200-square-meter) sundeck, which the shipyard says is the largest in her size range. It also includes a foredeck helicopter pad and stowage beneath for tenders to a maximum of 37 feet (11.5 meters).
It further includes a range of 5,000 nautical miles at 12 knots with hybrid propulsion. Similar to the Amels 60, the megayacht can rely on batteries as well as the main engines for a range of speeds, with the diesels generating propulsion plus electric power. Similarly, the Amels 80 can operate in Serenity mode, with batteries only at anchor. Furthermore, she’ll employ electric station keeping, similar to Dynamic Positioning.
While Øino has collaborated with Damen Yachting previously, the Amels 80 marks a first-time cooperation with Sinor Yacht Architecture & Design. Naturally, the studio will work with customers to tailor the interior design for 14 people in seven staterooms. Together, though, Damen Yachting and the studio propose all six guest suites on the main deck. They plan a dedicated owners’ deck, too, encompassing 5,565 square feet (517 square meters). Of course, an ample, 2,153-square-foot (200-square-meter) beach club (below) beckons as well. It contains a lounge as well as a spa, with opening sides and a skylight from the pool above.
The Sinot studio also suggests using as many natural and sustainable materials as possible. Furthermore, it advises using them in ways to highlight their natural characteristics. Woods like oak and walnut, along with abundant stones and leathers, appear amid the 41-foot (12.5-meter) beam. Bronzed metals and glass serve as finishings for accent materials, too.
Since Damen Yachting arranged a virtual theatrical event to reveal the project, you can see it online, with commentary from the build and design teams.
