May 17 was a milestone moment in a new Amels Limited Editions project that will see delivery in 2025. Craftspeople cut the first steel plates for Amels 8001, hull number one of the Amels 80.
Revealed earlier this spring, the new megayacht model was two years in the making. Part of the Limited Editions series, the 261-footer (80-meter) has styling by Espen Øino’s studio. She’s not just big in length, either. She has a significant volume of 2,175 gross tons, for instance, and accommodations for an owners’ party of 14. Twenty crewmembers and the captain will take care of guests’ and operational needs, too. Additionally, amid her six decks is a 2,153-square-foot (200-square-meter) sundeck. Damen Yachting claims it’s the largest in this size range.
Øino strove for “relatively simple lines” for long-term appeal. “Simplicity in design does stand the test of time well, and I like to think that this will be the case here,” he says. The same, he adds, applies to the general arrangement, which he says is “clear and logical.”
Speaking of which, Amels 8001 marks a first-time collaboration between Damen Yachting and Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design, for the interiors. The studio is selecting neutral and natural tones and textures. Paul Costerus, Sinot’s lead designer, says it’s important that “the natural characteristics remain as pure as possible.” Furthermore, of course, the owners who buy the spec build can fully customize the design and décor. Operationally, Amels 8001 will feature hybrid propulsion. Therefore, she’ll be capable of using the batteries alone at anchor for air conditioning and other comforts. The diesel engines will help recharge the battery bank when needed, too. Damen Yachting believes less reliance on diesel fuel is the way of the future, so all Amels 80s will include hybrid power. It’s further leveraging other efficient technologies (without naming them) for more sustainability.
The keel laying takes place within the next month. Notably, more than 40 Amels Limited Edition megayachts have seen delivery thus far.
