In about two years’ time, the 37th America’s Cup (AC37 for short) takes place in Barcelona. Already, superyacht owners and charter yachts are planning to be on hand. They’re getting assistance with booking slips, along with access to VIP events, thanks to BWA Yachting. The services provider is the official operations partner for the AC37 Superyacht Program.
Racing takes place in September and October 2024. Barcelona won the bid to host the event for a few reasons, including its marina infrastructure and abundance of hotels and related hospitality amenities. Of course, the marinas are of great importance to serve as team bases, but they also need to host visitors who arrive on all sorts of yachts.
BWA Yachting has overseen superyacht operations for multiple high-profile events. Most recently, for example, it hosted the Grand Prix Superyacht Rendezvous, coinciding with the Miami Grand Prix in May. It collaborated with the America’s Cup Event Authority for AC35 in Bermuda and AC34 in San Francisco, too. It therefore has strong familiarity with the needs of yacht owners and crew. In fact, Laura Esteve, BWA Yachting’s chief business development officer, project managed the AC35 Superyacht Program. She says the team anticipates “developing and delivering the best AC Superyacht Program yet for Barcelona 2024.”
Grant Dalton, CEO of America’s Cup Event, cites the service provider’s experience, too, in hinting at what visitors can anticipate. “Our vision for the AC37 is an entirely inclusive event, with a wide variety of shore-based AC race village activations and viewing options for everyone all the way through to a world-class AC37 Superyacht Program.”
That program includes prime berths, excellent viewing spots for the race, plus invitations to parties and other experiences. At previous America’s Cup races, owners and guests could take tours of the racing teams’ “pit lanes” as well. For AC37, the team bases are in close proximity to the superyacht slips. The slips additionally are quite close to the AC Race Village, where a wide variety of events take place.
Antonella Della Pietra, BWA Yachting Spain’s managing partner, notes that the company already anticipates the program attracting “an impressive number of yachts to Barcelona.” She adds, “The owners, guests, and crew will be welcomed as part of the America’s Cup family.”
