Ahead of her debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival, the American owner of Avontuur is giving sneak peeks onboard. They’re not the usual peeks, either. As much as he’s happy with the wood paneling, stonework, and more décor touches, he’s absolutely thrilled with the toy stowage. “After a lifetime of struggling with storage for my gear, this boat allows me to keep everything on it all the time and do whatever I want, whenever I want,” he shares.
Considering Avontuur is 89’6” (27.3 meters) and carries two tenders, four PWCs, plus a flotilla of stand-up paddleboards, surfboards, canoes, and more, that’s quite a statement. However, he’s just what Lynx Yachts had in mind when it conceived the Crossover 27 series. Being hull number one of that series, Avontuur blends support-yacht advantages with superyacht luxury.

Lynx Yachts came up with the concepts of generous stowage and intimate indulgences. It tapped fellow Dutch companies Bernd Weel and Diana Yacht Design for, respectively, styling and naval architecture. Franck Darnet, meanwhile, came onboard for interior design, tailoring Avontuur—“adventure” in Dutch—to her owner’s liking. Throughout the three staterooms (four are standard), the ambience is both modern and timeless. It comes via abundant oak and white stone in living areas, combining with concrete-like colors in the en suite baths. “The last thing I wanted was to create some kind of ‘fashion’ interior where you have to throw everything away after only a few years because it’s no longer on trend,” Darnet says. Additionally important, to both him and the owner, the materials are durable and easily maintained.

The open-plan main deck is notable, as is the fact that the crew’s quarters sit within the guest space below decks. But, this adventure-oriented yacht really shines with her toy-oriented spaces. For instance, the elongated, nearly 754-square-foot (70-square-meter) main deck is home to the Air Nautique G23 ski boat and a 16-foot (5-meter) RIB. It doubles as an ample entertainment area (above) when the toys are in the water, too. Just below, meanwhile, the lazarette has custom stowage for the paddleboards, surfboards, scuba equipment, and more. Finally, up on the sundeck, Avontuur keeps two stand-up PWCs and two further traditional PWCs.

“This boat is fantastic because it is so freeing,” the owner says, of all the toy-handling options. So is her range, reportedly 3,000 nautical miles at a little less than her 12½-knot cruising speed. Power comes courtesy of twin 850-hp Caterpillar engines. And, the 6’2” (1.9-meter) draft means plenty of shallow shores are within reach.
If you miss seeing Avontuur at the Cannes Yachting Festival, don’t dismay. The steel and aluminum yacht is heading stateside in the coming weeks.
