Despite yacht builders exploring more environmentally friendly options, few thus far are considering solar panels. Rossinavi is different, though. Not only is it already using them, but also employing them to support full-electric ocean crossings. It’s further using them in an aesthetically striking way, with the Rossinavi Infinity 42 BluE yacht. Bearing design by Fulvio de Simoni, the single-hull superyacht promises additional technological advantages, like the usage of AI to help your crew.
The shipyard and design studio first explored solar panels together for a catamaran, the Rossinavi Sea Cat 40. Hull number one in that series is already in build, too. Due to the reception for the Sea Cat, Rossinavi and de Simoni put their heads together for a monohull.
The Rossinavi Infinity 42 BluE yacht will appeal to traditional cruisers for a few reasons. Namely, she features all-aluminum construction and is 138 feet (42 meters) LOA, for 12 guests. The megayacht also has a beach club, as expected, plus balconies off the main-deck master suite. Up top, the sundeck extends farther aft than aboard most large luxury yachts, creating more space for sunning besides dinner and drinks.
Notably, the design departs from the norm in a few ways. Firstly, the sundeck overhang creates more shelter and privacy for the nest-like aft deck. The raised stern, meanwhile, augments that privacy even further. (This, and the aft-deck design, call to mind yet another joint superyacht from the team, the Infinity Series.) Forward on the main deck, two pop-up covers reveal seating areas perfect for enjoying views of approaching shores or anchorages. Those pop-ups have solar-panel-covered surfaces, too.
Solar panels cover significant surfaces onboard the Rossinavi Infinity 42 BluE yacht, in fact. The shipyard says they can convert sunlight into energy even in low-intensity situations and when the sun is at lower angles for exposure. Since the panels are further flexible, they complement de Simoni’s curving styling.
Ultimately, the panels feed a large-capacity battery bank for more than hotel loads. Rossinavi says they’ll support cruising 90 percent under fully electric power for the average daily navigation needs. For transatlantic crossings at 10 to 11 knots, they’ll permit full-electric mode for about 70 percent of the journey. The remaining 30 percent comes with extra support from diesel gensets.
Equally important, the Rossinavi Infinity 42 BluE yacht will incorporate Rossinavi’s own artificial intelligence (AI) system. It monitors the yacht’s performance and operations, “learning” how guests and crew use her. It also will suggest more environmentally minded actions to crewmembers. In conjunction with the Rossinavi Zero Noise Technology to damp sound and vibration, this should make a difference in everyone’s experience, too.
Federico Rossi, Rossinavi’s chief operating officer, says elevating operations and guests’ time onboard is important to the team. “Progress toward more sustainable, comfortable, and experiential navigation is what has guided us in this project,” he says.
