Superyacht videos typically don’t include vessels taking on heavy swells. Yet, the Moonen Cocoon not only did that during sea trials, but also powered through them with aplomb.
The Dutch builder behind this 124-foot (37.8-meter) megayacht actually doesn’t mind tough conditions for its sea trials. It does some speed runs and maneuvers on calm, inland waters, of course, but prefers the open North Sea for endurance tests. They’re closer to the operational conditions that Moonen customers encounter, since they put the long range of their yachts to good use. Capt. Kaela Bermeister, in charge of Cocoon, agrees that the wind and heavy swells were helpful. In fact, she says, “During these rocky conditions, it’s a great chance to listen for any rattles and creaks that need improving, and generally just be on the lookout for those small details that need adapting before we take over.”
Since this Moonen Martinique charmed her owners at launch late last year, plenty of adventures await. They chose the project after having visited a few shipyards, further impressed with the design and construction approach. The design of the Moonen Cocoon includes a a five-stateroom layout, which they were able to customize. Specifically, it has a Scandinavian ambience from the Stockholm-based design studio Andreas Martin-Löf Arkitekter. Additionally, they appreciated being able to include a Z-lift swim platform and space for dive gear.
Bermeister (below) concludes, “It has been such an incredible time with Moonen since I joined the build, witnessing the skills and precision that goes into this project really makes it an honor.”
