For years, cruisers craving an adrenaline rush have turned to AB Yachts. In fact, the Italian shipyard has delivered nearly 200 projects to date. Hull number 196 just hit the water this week, an AB 100 yacht model whose color scheme is as bold as her expected performance.
AB Yachts focuses on delivering spirited performance wrapped in sporty style. Its launches are especially for those wishing to make it from Florida to Cat Cay in the Bahamas, for instance, in an hour. The AB 100 yacht top speed is 59 knots, while her cruising speed is 51 knots. Power comes from triple MTUs with waterjets, including a central booster. Notably, according to AB Yachts, the fuel consumption is about ¼ gph (1 lph) throughout much of her speed range.
The owner of the new launch selected not just the distinctive racy red hull color, but also black and white to accentuate her styling. Additionally, the owner personalized several areas and made special requests for physical features impacting the overall design. For the latter, the owner wanted a slide-open roof over the main saloon and dining area. Typically, the flying bridge occupies this area. The roof brings in abundant sunshine (or starry views) and fresh air at the touch of a button. It’s a nice combination with the full-height windows to both sides and slide-open glass doors aft.
Also outside, and atypical for a sport-fly design, a hot tub sits on the foredeck. It further has a series of awnings overhead to provide shade when the owner and guests want it. Similarly, permanent curtains around it lend the party privacy.

Still outside, this AB 100 yacht has a particularly notable feature incorporated into the tender garage. When opened, the shell door lowers into the water. This makes it simpler to handle the three pretty large watertoys, which stow sideways inside. It makes getting in and out of the water for swimming easier, too. Similarly, since it’s just partially submerged, it creates a mini water park, if you will, for children in the owner’s family.
With staterooms for 10 and a crew of four aboard, the yacht overall has a pretty relaxed, casual ambience.
On a related note, AB Yachts’ waterfront currently has at least one model of its full range. They include an AB 80, set for delivery soon, as well as the first AB 120, set for American owners (above). That project is in undergoing the last series of sea trials.
