Superyacht owners may not be familiar with the Apremare shipyard. It dates back to 1983 in Sorrento, Italy, and it has been in the hands of the Aprea and Pollio families since 1988. While all but one of the boats and yachts have been smaller than 78 feet (24 meters), that’s about to change. The Apreamare Maestro 88 yacht not only will be the new flagship, but also will represent a new look for the famed Maestro series.
Apremare’s president and co-founder, Cataldo Aprea, a fourth-generation boatbuilder, created the Maestro line in 2005 with Zuccon International Project. In fact, it sprang from a drawing on a piece of paper while at a restaurant during the Genoa boat show. The notion was a motoryacht for cruising comfortably in a variety of seas and of course embracing strong style.

The new Apreamare Maestro 88 results from a repeat customer seeking a larger yacht for longer voyages. While together with the owner, Apreamare settled on an LOA of 89 feet (27.1 meters), the actual hull length is less than 78 feet (24 meters). Additionally, the shipyard passed the styling and naval-architecture challenge to two fellow Italian studios. Specifically, Marco Casali took on the lines, while Umberto Tagliavini of Marine Design & Services took on the hull design.
Instead of a planing hull, the Apreamare Maestro 88 yacht has a semi-displacement one. It should allow a cruising speed of 18 knots and top end exceeding 22 knots, with MAN engines. Furthermore, the owner should enjoy the longer cruises he craves. He’s chosen the optional MAN engine package, with higher horsepower than the standard MANs. Either way, the yacht should see a 1,000-nautical-mile range at 10 knots. Plus, solar panels on the hardtop feed the hotel loads.

For his part, Casali incorporates stylistic elements from the smaller Maestro motoryachts, while adding in-demand features, too. For instance, walls of glass envelop the main deck, sliding open as well to one side. The entire main deck has an open-plan arrangement, including the interior helm station. Below decks, meanwhile, large windows brighten the four- or five-stateroom layout. The owner of hull number one has chosen the four-stateroom configuration, with a study/lounge containing an electric piano.
When the megayacht is underway, guests can head outside to enjoy the bow lounge or the variety of areas on the flying bridge. A hardtop shades a dining area and wetbar/cooktop, while loose lounges and settees can go aft. Although the arrangement ultimately is up to customers, they and their captain will enjoy the benchseat helm station to starboard fully forward. They’ll also appreciate having watertoys or a tender stow in the garage.
