Cruising, cruising, and more cruising are in the cards for the owners of the yacht Akula. She lowered into the water at Rossinavi’s shipyard earlier today, with remote areas of the world on future itineraries.
To that point, the 195-footer (59.4-meter) has an ice-classed hull, plus a version of Dynamic Positioning for anchorless station-keeping. Additionally, diesel-electric propulsion will allow lower carbon emissions in a variety of warm and cool climates. Arrabito Naval Architects handled all engineering and hull design, with the owners actively interested in all aspects of their yacht’s development.
While plenty of owners take interest in the evolution of their yachts, these owners made some extra-notable requests. Firstly, they intend to host marine researchers and support philanthropic marine-related causes. Therefore, two 20-foot-long (6-meter-long) containers can come aboard to serve as labs. They can sit in a large open area aft. That same space can hold two custom 29-foot-long (9-meter-long) tenders equipped with dive gear. This first-ever expedition project from Rossinavi additionally has an open observation deck where the supplementary docking and maneuvering station usually sits. (That station is instead below decks.) Finally, the sundeck is really more of a technical space, incorporating the emergency genset.
Inside, however, the yacht Akula is absolutely comfort-oriented. With a volume of 1,215 gross tons, the superyacht reflects elegance and coziness in her saloon, staterooms, and other lounging areas. No illustrations or details on the décor are available, however. That said, though, FM Architettura, the interior-design studio that worked with the owners, says they simultaneously “guided and empowered the entire team.”
