UPDATE, NOVEMBER 27, 2023: Damen Yachting’s main shipyard in Vlissingen, The Netherlands welcomed the Amels 80 yacht for outfitting earlier today (below). It will remain her home until delivery in 2025.

About 14 months after steel cutting began, the first Amels 80 yacht emerged from her construction shed for the first time. It’s also 18 months after Damen Yachting revealed plans for her.
The steel hull and aluminum superstructure construction took place at a Romanian shipyard belonging to Damen Yachting’s parent company. Soon, the joined structures will make their way via barge to the Damen Yachting facilities in The Netherlands for outfitting. Of course, her official launch and christening will take place there, too, ahead of delivery in 2025.
While this Amels 80 yacht started on spec, a client of Burgess Yachts signed a contract in September of last year. Since that time, the owner has been working with Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design to personalize the project. Neutral, natural materials are predominantly making up the interior, for a party of 14. Although no other specifics are available, Sean Bianchi, head of Burgess’ new construction and a naval architect himself, says the owner has “embellished” several areas. “The owner is enthusiastic and forward thinking when it comes to his yachting needs,” Bianchi explains.
Damen Yachting’s internal project manager, Romke van der Linde, agrees with Bianchi’s assessment. “This owner is positive, driven, and passionate,” he says.
Among the things stirring that passion: a profile by Espen Øino that the designer says will stand the test of time. “The Amels 80 is a design that will not age,” he asserts. “There is a sense of scale, and nothing is wasted,” he further says.
The Amels 80 yacht certainly does have a sense of scale. For instance, the sundeck occupies 2,153 square feet (200 square meters), quite a sizable space. Fitting for a project of her LOA, her beach club leads onward to a spa, plus has three opening sides. Naturally, an abundance of watertoys will stow in a toy garage, while a helicopter has a dedicated pad. Finally, and as you’d expect, the owner of this first Amels 80 yacht has a private deck.
