An effort to create protected migration zones for large sea species like sharks and whales has received a big boost. Operation Swimway, a joint effort between Tahiti Private Expeditions and YachtAid Global, now has the backing of the three Tahiti-based superyacht agents. It’s the first time these competitors have come together in a conservation-minded effort to protect the life in their home waters and the South Pacific as a whole. What’s more, the agents are reaching out to owners and their representatives to enlist their help.
In late 2022, Tahiti Private Expeditions and YachtAid Global teamed up on the initiative. Operation Swimway enables you to work closely with distinguished members of the scientific community. The organizations tailor-make your itinerary and personally pair you with the right scientists. These scientists are fully devoted to accelerating the conservation of pelagic species. The collaborative efforts in which you can participate particularly focus on conservation of critical migration corridors for sharks, manta rays, sea turtles, whales, and billfish. Overfishing and bycatch have dramatically impacted these corridors, unfortunately. This makes it all the more crucial to help the species reach new feeding grounds and maintain their population numbers.
With the three Tahiti-based superyacht agents onboard, more owners and charter guests, too, can get involved. Specifically, the companies are Tahiti Ocean, Seal Superyacht Tahiti, and Tahiti Superyacht Support. Additionally, these three will provide donations as well as logistical assistance for the program.
Since French Polynesia earns accolades for its super-clear waters, beautiful coral reefs, and dramatic sea and land life, Operation Swimway has stronger chances of making an impact.
