With the first five hulls already sold, each to current Azimut clients, too, Azimut Yachts believes its latest flagship brings something new to the megayacht market. The Azimut Grande 44M yacht certainly offers features similar-size projects don’t, from creature comforts to lower emissions and operational flexibility.
Firstly, the 144-footer (nearly 44-meter) incorporates four decks, penned by Alberto Mancini. Among them, although the upper deck can be an entertaining level, an alternative is an owners’ deck. In this arrangement, the master suite, all 538 square feet (50 square meters), connects with a private alfresco area. Typically, this is reserved for much larger projects.
Secondly, the Azimut Grande 44M yacht borrows a feature from the Azimut Grande Trideck, namely the Sea View Terrace. It’s a partially raised area aft on the main deck, much like a mezzanine. However, the new model adds a twist, specifically a glass pool. The glass bottom spills light down into the beach club directly below, too. Naturally, the beach club has fold-down terraces.

To provide owners and guests with an equally enjoyable experience inside the decks, Azimut turned to m2atelier. Since the series is semi-custom, clients can outfit areas with the studio the way they wish. Of course, the designers and the shipyard already have options that have captured customers’ attention. For example, a dining area can overlook the pool (bottom). If buyers don’t want an owners’ deck, the forward portion of the upper deck can be a window-rimmed media room. Yet another possibility here is a formal dining area for up to 12 people (below). Regardless, the windows are nearly 6’6” (two meters) in height. Additionally, the outside area fully forward suits a fire pit amid lounge seating, for cozy nights in cool climates.
In terms of emissions, the shipyard says the Azimut Grande 44M yacht has 20 to 30 percent lower discharges than comparably sized superyachts. It’s partly due to what it calls the Dual Mode hull, which combines elements of fast-displacement and planning designs. Furthermore, improved performance, including less drag, pitch, and roll, comes from a first-time incorporation of a Hull Vane. It’s a hydrodynamic wing, parallel to the stern, that damps the megayacht’s wake while also generating better thrust.

Another element in the lower emissions is a battery bank that handles the hotel loads that gensets traditionally do. Azimut’s in-house engineering team developed the system to allow staying at anchor for four to eight hours this way. The Azimut Grande 44M yacht is one of six models from the shipyard using this technology. But, she’s the first to combine it with what the shipyard calls the Mild Hybrid Plus system. In this case, the superyacht can cruise without relying on the gensets for any of the hotel loads. Furthermore, it can produce energy to recharge the batteries.
The Azimut Grande 44M yacht will debut at next year’s Cannes Yachting Festival.
