The sport-fly megayacht market focuses first and foremost on one thing: speed. If the decades-past compromise on comfort has kept you away from them despite your ongoing admiration of their looks and performance, know that times have changed. The AB 120 yacht series, of which Wraith is the first, delivers remarkable amenities along with a 45-knot punch.

A hallmark of AB Yachts’ lineup is alfresco living space. Since cruisers want even more of it these days, the AB 120 yacht delivers in a few creative ways. Firstly, the transom is part of a multi-level, open-air beach club, starting with an aft-facing settee on the lowest level. The inclusion of this lounge immediately transforms what’s typically just a swim platform into a welcoming all-day area at anchor. Augmenting it, the two side “wings” fold down for setting up seating or using as you see fit.

What makes this one part of a multi-level beach club is the configuration of the main aft deck. The AB 120 yacht perches a hot tub—beneath a big sunpad when she’s underway, and flanked by two remaining single-person sunpads when in use—directly behind and above the seating area. Hull one, the yacht Wraith, made her debut at the Palm Beach International Boat Show with the hot tub on full display. It was a major topic of conversation. Notably—and wisely—absent here, too, aboard the yacht Wraith: a dining table. Alfresco dining can take place instead at the foredeck lounge or on the flying bridge.

You could argue that the saloon is part of the beach club, too. Since AB Yachts created pockets for the sliding glass doors to tuck away, the ample, aft-facing seating area chosen by the owner of the yacht Wraith looks and feels more a part of the experience. With the doors closed, the seating area becomes a cozy TV lounge or post-dinner conversation lounge. It’s in proximity to the interior dining area and a beautiful forward bar.

Speaking of TVs lounges, it’s hard to beat the one below decks. Visitors aboard the AB 120 yacht will be happily surprised to see this airy space. Descend the stairs adjacent to the helm, and you enter this atrium-like space, open overhead to the wheelhouse windows. Incredibly light and bright due to further windows, it won’t be just a nighttime space.

Come nighttime, though, the owner of Wraith can ask the crew to set up the movie screen on the sundeck. AB Yachts built in mounting hardware in the sunpad forward, and incorporated speakers in furnishings all around the deck. Sports, movies, whatever the preference; the owner just needs to make sure guests pass the popcorn.

Undoubtedly, all will make sure to enjoy the ride to each destination as well. With a top speed upwards of 45 knots, the AB 120 yacht is at her best underway. But, the shipyard remains mindful that owners and guests want to play once at their destination. Whether the owner of Wraith is in the Bahamas, a favorite spot, the clever tender garage can press into use. A float-in/float-out system conceals behind the beach club seating area. It works in conjunction with the center portion of the swim platform. A hatch behind the seating area raises, as does the platform, since it’s a transformer. The RIB and PWC in the garage then become accessible.

Overall, the thought put into extra amenities—including workout equipment mounted to a Murphy bed in a guest stateroom—makes the AB 120 yacht more than a fast flyer. Island hopping at her 40-knot cruise (45 is top end) is certainly a thrill. But having so many flexible, welcoming spaces for your family and friends makes a bigger difference.
