Although Americans regularly cruise some parts of South East Asia, the numbers are on the rise. There’s a desire to visit more exotic parts of the world, especially among those who have only visited traditional destinations. Add in improved support services and genuine warmth and hospitality of the island nations’ people, and it’s a winning combination. “There are more world-class marinas and accommodation in nearly every South East Asia cruising region, with more coming,” says Gordon Fernandes, Asia Pacific Superyachts’ cofounder, whose company assists visiting yachts. These upcoming South East Asia superyacht destinations deserve a closer look—and your feet in their sands.

Phuket, Thailand
At the southernmost tip of the island, ONE°15 Marina Panwa Phuket (above) is the closest departure point for the stunning Phi Phi Islands. Currently under construction, it accommodates yachts to 120 feet (36.58 meters). This development is set to transform the Cape Panwa Peninsular at Ao Markham and the deep seaport. Ultimately, 171 berths will be available for a wide variety of yachts, along with 25 hard-stand spaces with 80 dry-stack storage. The developers are positioning the integrated marina club as a nautical lifestyle resort. Besides having a hotel, it will also have a spa and wellness area, plus yacht chartering.
Phuket additionally ranks high among South East Asia superyacht destinations because of a second new dedicated marina. Port Maccharu, on Phuket’s northeast shore, will have berths for yachts from 131 to 262 feet (40 to 80 meters). Amenities include restaurants, shops, a gourmet supermarket, and a waterfront exhibition and convention area. Port Maccharu’s marina is adjacent to the Phuket Premier Boatyard, servicing yachts up to 80 feet (24.38 meters). It’s further next to the new Shipyard, which can service yachts to 197 feet (60 meters).

Bali, Indonesia
Bali’s Port of Benoa is undergoing a major revamp to become the luxurious Benoa Marina Bali. Recently upgraded, the marina welcomes both international and domestic yacht owners. Reliable fueling is on site, as are a prestigious yacht club, luxury hospitality options, and extensive retail, entertainment, and dining outlets. Benoa Marina Bali (above) is striving for a mid-2026 opening. It will have slips for 180 superyachts, including more than 50 for yachts to 295 feet (90 meters). Simultaneously, it will have service facilities, including haul-outs for yachts to 200 tons. According to Capt. Thomas Taatjes, Asia Pacific Superyachts Indonesia director, the marina “will set a new benchmark for yachting facilities in the region, one that will ensure Indonesia’s growing prominence as a global yachting destination.”

Maldives
The islands of the Maldives are already highly appealing South East Asia superyacht destinations. But, Zamani Islands Superyacht Marina is a first that should attract even more cruisers. It’s the islands’ only purpose-built superyacht marina—plus features an integrated resort. Situated in the Maldives’ South Malé Atoll (top), it comprises eight islands extending three miles (five kilometers) into a natural lagoon. Three distinct resorts are in development, each specifically catering to different tastes. For example, the Uber Luxury Resort features villas (above) and mansions. Eventually, the project, from Atoll Estates, will have 120 berths, with availability rolling out over the next few years. “This cutting-edge project aims at transforming the superyacht experience into an exceptionally luxurious convenience and marks a major turning point for maritime luxury in Maldives,” says Mohamed Hameed, director and general manager of Asia Pacific Superyachts Maldives.
South East Asia is one of the last remaining frontiers for uncrowded islands exploration. Add it to your must-visit list.
