With its facilities near Venice, Italy, Ocean King constructs steel and aluminum explorer yachts in the vein that its former parent company built commercial vessels. Nearly 20 years after its founding, Ocean King is formally setting its sights on U.S. customers. It has partnered with Denison Yachting for expanding its reach throughout the Americas, in fact.
Ocean King opened its doors in 2007 thanks to Alberto and David Ballarin. The brothers were partners in Cantieri Navali Chioggia (CNC), a yard that specialized in servicing commercial fishing boats, tugboats, and other rugged craft. CNC became Adriatic Shipyard, but kept its commercial-vessel focus. The Ballarins believed the tough-ship mindset would benefit pleasure-yacht owners seeking true exploration-focused superyachts.

The Denison Yachting team met with the Ocean King team at last year’s Cannes Yachting Festival. “Right away, we saw the huge potential in bringing Ocean King yachts to the Americas,” says Peter Quintal, a Denison broker who with Will Noftsinger are the builder’s new main representatives. “What really sets Ocean King apart is their outstanding communication, in-house fabrication capabilities, and bold vision for the future.” Additionally, Quintal notes, “They’ve been producing steel hulls for some of the most respected yacht builders in the industry for years.”
The bold vision that Quintal refers to includes building yachts to 230 feet (70 meters). The Ballarins are adding sheds to accommodate construction and outfitting for superyachts of this size. Currently, Ocean King has two series, the Ducale and the Doge lines. With styling and interior design by VYD, the Ocean King Ducale 120 (top and above) is the largest in that particular series. LOA: 120’7” (36.9 meters). The Doge line, meanwhile, includes the Doge 400, which saw the yacht Lori (below) go under contract in 2021. Delivery occurred last year, with a 5000-nautical-mile range at 9 knots and naval architecture by inNave. The model name comes from the fact that volume is 430 gross tons, healthy for a 132-footer (40.4-meter). Ocean King has a new Doge 400 under construction, too. ‘We’re open for new orders,” the brothers further say.

Denison Yachting initially will raise awareness of the Ducale 120 yacht series as well as the Doge 400 yacht series. Both offer delivery slots 28 months after signing a contract. Even more series are in the works as well. For instance, the Doge 350, the Doge 500, and the Ducale 140 are among them. Furthermore, the two companies will promote Ocean King’s Explorer series, with models from 89 to 131 feet (27 to 40 meters). Finally, the two intend to invite custom-yacht clients seeking projects to 328 feet (100 meters). Adriatic Shipyards has handled projects of that length.
