“This is no showboat for flexing the muscles,” says designer Marco Casali. “We have created an intensely calming interior,” for a travel-loving family to enjoy cruising together. What’s more, the interior of the GX42 yacht from GX Superyachts “fits the GX Superyachts principles of responsible yachting.”

Less than 18 months from finishing as the first GX Superyachts project, this 138-footer (42-meter) is further the flagship model. While GX Superyachts selected Casali to create tailored interiors, naturally owners can work with their choice of professionals. The owner of hull number one liked his suggested aesthetics, which tie into the focus on more environmentally-minded operations. The GX42 yacht relies on hybrid propulsion, plus solar panels and batteries for hotel loads. According to GX Superyachts, she should therefore emit 60 percent less carbon emissions than fully diesel yachts. Additionally, air conditioning and all other conveniences will be able to draw solely from the batteries for 48 hours or more at anchor. As for performance, the GX42 should be able to cover 100 nautical miles in electric mode at 6 knots. For transatlantic crossings, meanwhile, the diesels will propel her to 12 knots.

Inside the GX42 yacht, Casali recommended, and the owner selected, abundant walnut paneling and cabinetry, plus leather for panels, shelving, and other surfaces. The reliance on primarily natural materials—the walnut in its naturally rich color, too—along with radiused edges everywhere echo the world outside the windows. Casali is even sourcing mirrors and furnishings from Poltronau Frau and other renowned brands with broad radiuses. Of course, custom pieces, like the alcoves for the owner’s collection of art, follow the same shapes. Pops of more natural colors like sage and blue help add more visual interest while sticking to the theme. In yet another creative touch, rippled liquid metal panels mimic and reflect the ocean waves.

From the backlit Turkish marble in the dining area to the accommodations for 10, plenty invites guests to relax and enjoy. For instance, the VIP below decks is full beam, with a king bed and a folding balcony to port (above). “The VIP cabin is breathtaking – it’s just as well suited to a co-owner as a guest,” says Vladimir Zinchenko, GX Superyachts’ owner. The owner’s children, meanwhile, have their own cabin, with twins and a Pullman berth when needed.

Finally, the master inside the GX42 yacht, a raised-pilothouse project, delights the owner. Wrap-around windows will invite him to step outside first thing every morning and enjoy a private foredeck terrace. Any business work needed can be conducted from the desk in the foyer. But mostly, the shipyard and Casali say this owner plans to prioritize time with family.
Delivery remains on schedule for next year.
