Sanlorenzo SHE Yacht Celebrates Builder’s 70-Year Heritage & Its Future

Whie her looks resemble those of bygone eras, inside her decks, the one-off Sanlorenzo SHE yacht is decidedly contemporary. From modern indoor and outdoor living to more environmentally minded construction and propulsion, “SHE represents a journey seven decades in the making.”

Massimo Perotti, Sanlorenzo’s president and CEO, makes this declaration, adding that the 84-footer (25.5-meter) represents “everything we believe in: elegance that doesn’t shout, innovation that respects, design that endures.” A composite yacht using bioresins, the Sanlorenzo SHE yacht immediately reminds you of 1960s cruisers in profile. The design comes from Zuccon International Project. Bernardo Zuccon from the studio explains, “Every line, every volume of SHE originates from the desire to reinterpret forms and proportions that marked an era.”

One of the most readily visible examples comes when the megayacht anchors. Since owners and guests enjoy water-level living, the transom opens for lounging, with loose furnishings. Additionally, swim steps deploy into the water. Perennially popular activities like alfresco dining and sunning await on the main aft deck and the sundeck, as buyers see fit. In fact, the modular Smart Island system, which debuted with the Sanlorenzo SX120 yacht, lets them arrange seating and related configurations accordingly. From the opening platform to the sundeck, all exterior areas feature low-maintenance synthetic teak. According to Sanlorenzo, it further reduces a hot feel underfoot by about five to seven degrees (three to four degrees centigrade).

The repurposing of decade-honored looks continues inside. Against a backdrop of mahogany finishes, true to the 1960s, Lissoni & Partners creates a polished, warm, and welcoming ambience. From the saloon to the three staterooms, loose furnishings echo mid-century Italian design. While this does make the Sanlorenzo SHE yacht more of a production yacht, buyers still can arrange the decks to their tastes.

The decks unfold in quite a modern way. Similar to the Sanlorenzo SX120 superyacht series, SHE has three split levels. A mezzanine level, between the main and lower decks, can serve as the dining area. The galley leads directly to it from the lower level, which is why the shipyard envisions the mezzanine for mealtime. Simultaneously, Sanlorenzo envisions the main deck as the relax and unwind zone. Not only does it connect directly to the aft deck, but it also is open plan straight to the helm. It makes for a much more casually comfortable cruising experience. Enhancing the enjoyment, large glass windows envelop the entire main deck.

The owners’ party of six—accommodated in three staterooms—can engage in leisurely cruising or swift journeys as well. Notably, the Sanlorenzo SHE yacht is the first among the Italian builder’s offerings to feature Volvo Penta’s hybrid IPS propulsion package. Firstly, under diesel power, the small superyacht should see a maximum speed of 20 knots. With both diesels and electric motors engaged, SHE should see the same speed. Top end with the electric motors, meanwhile, should be 11 knots. Most captains and owner-operators, however, will use full-electric mode for arriving in and departing from marinas and anchorages, plus some low-speed transits. In those situations, Sanlorenzo expects 50 nautical miles to be possible under 9 to 10 knots. Further of note, recharging takes place automatically in diesel mode, requiring up to 45 minutes to reach full capacity.

Complementing the electric aspect of propulsion, the Sanlorenzo SHE yacht comes with an all-electric custom 14-foot (3.95-meter) tender.

“Launching SHE during the 20^th anniversary of my custodianship of Sanlorenzo is deeply meaningful,” Perotti says. “SHE is a bridge between what we’ve inherited and what we choose to become.”
