Yacht Ciappaira: German Build, Monegasque Design, Family Feel

Much like the natural cove and hidden pebble beach inspiring her name, the concept yacht Ciappaira prioritizes simple, sunlit relaxation. If signed, this ready-for-construction design will be the first superyacht build for Astra Nord, with a well-versed yacht-design partner.

A German commercial shipyard re-imagined as a superyacht yard, Astra Nord sits on the Baltic Sea. Custom megayachts of 213 feet (65 meters) and larger are its target, as are same-size refits. Theodoros Fotiadis, the head of T. Fotiadis Design in Germany, spearheaded the reimagination of the site. His goal is to cater to clients previously attracted to Nobiskrug, which went bankrupt in 2024.

The concept yacht Ciappaira results from Astra Nord working alongside TAG – The A Group. The latter, based on Monaco, has contributed to numerous superyachts over the past few decades, including many early Oceanco deliveries. Given the attraction of the Med, the number-one summer destination for superyachts, the studio had that lifestyle in mind from the start. In fact, the project name comes from Plage Ciappaira in Monaco. Primarily a locals beach, it’s quite private, with a steep stone staircase yielding access below the famed Rock of Monaco.

“Ciappaira is a yacht you understand the moment you see her,” says Fotiadis. The 213-foot (65-meter) naturally has six staterooms for 12 people, but the focus is family. That therefore is why one of the five decks is a Family Deck. Many yachts of this size have an owners’ deck, entirely or almost entirely for the owners. Instead, this project reinterprets that deck with a family lounge aft. When the owners want some alone time, though, they have a private alfresco area forward, accessible from their stateroom. It includes a hot tub.

Yet another family-centered level is the main deck. All five guest staterooms are on it, as are the dining room and main saloon. To cater to the ever-popular indoor-outdoor lifestyle, the main saloon extends out to another lounge and a pool. The pool is pretty substantial, too, about 14 feet (4.2 meters) long and 12 feet (3.6 meters) wide.

Speaking of pools, yet another one is inside, at the waterline. It transforms the traditional beach club into a hidden oasis, harkening to the design’s name. Complementing it are a sauna, a hammam, and a gym.

Capping the “shared ambition to deliver an exceptional onboard experience and achieve a subtle balance between contemporary and timeless elegance,” as Jerome Hein of the design studio says, the transom is laid in stone (below). This is another nod to the design’s inspiration.

While Ciappaira is available for further development with an owner, more hulls similar to her are a possibility.
