Look to the right in the photo here, and you’ll see the hull for the first Sunseeker 155 Yacht. It was moved from one shed to another at Sunseeker’s Poole, England facility last week.
The Sunseeker 155 Yacht marks the largest megayacht being offered by the British builder. Sunseeker says this makes it the only production boatbuilder worldwide offering boats from 40 to 155 feet LOA (approximately 12.2 to 47.2 meters) under one brand name.
“Production” and “one brand” are key words. The Ferretti Group’s offerings span a similar size range, for example, but are split among several different brands and extend into fully custom megayacht construction.
If you’re wondering about the brown color of the hull and assuming it’s metal, it’s not. The Sunseeker 155 Yacht is an all-fiberglass megayacht. The yard says a clear gelcoat was used for the hull, allowing the resin to show. Once the yacht is completed, she’ll have a full paint job, like other yachts of her size. Sunseeker won’t divulge details of what exactly that color will be, though, preferring to keep everyone guessing. Hopefully we won’t have to wait until the end of 2013, when she’s delivered, to find out.
We won’t have to wait that long to learn how the 155 Yacht is being outfitted, though, as Sunseeker released those details some time ago. The RINA-classed 155 Yacht will have accommodations for 12 guests and 10 crew, balconies off the saloon and master stateroom, and a beach club. She’ll further meet MCA LY2 requirements. Performance-wise, a top speed of 26 knots is expected.
That speed should suit her owner well, considering he’s a former Formula 1 team owner and current racing analyst: Eddie Jordan. Jordan is a loyal Sunseeker client, having purchased hull number one of a few of its models to date.
