No business can survive without an infusion of young, eager talent. In recognition of this, the UK magazine Boat International as well as Camper and Nicholsons and the Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA) are joining forces to present the first-ever Young Designer of the Year Award at BI’s upcoming World Superyacht Awards in April.
Anyone who’s recently received a degree in or who is studying for a degree related to boat or yacht design is eligible to enter. The person who the judges deem produces the best concept for a megayacht in terms of innovation, technical feasibility, style, and presentation will receive the €5,000 prize (about $7,500).
The winner should take heart knowing that he or she is indeed immensely talented, as some of the biggest and most well-respected professionals in the business will be reviewing entries: Ed Dubois of Dubois Naval Architects, Martin Francis of Francis Design, Paolo Scanu of Studio Scanu, Tim Heywood of Tim Heywood Designs, Terence Disdale of Terence Disdale Designs, Jonathan Quinn Barnett of JQB. George Nicholson, chairman of CNI, and Trevor Blakely of RINA will also judge.
Submissions are due by January 31. Further information here.
