May 1 is a big day, literally, for Moonen Shipyards. The Dutch megayacht builder will officially begin using a new, larger facility on the Lek River in Groot-Ammers, just east of Rotterdam. The 206-foot building shed, the taller of the two buildings in the photo you see here, will be dedicated to new construction of yachts to 45 meters (about 147 feet) LOA as well as refits of even larger yachts.
It’s quite a step for the shipyard that prides itself on building what it affectionately calls “pocket-size superyachts.” To put this into perspective, Moonen is presently building its largest-ever project, the 124-foot Snow White, set for delivery next year. In fact, Snow White will be moved from Moonen’s existing facilities in ’s-Hertogenbosch, which is west of Rotterdam, and into the Groot-Ammers yard for completion. The ’s-Hertogenbosch yard will remain in use for construction of yachts to 115 feet LOA as well as house all design, engineering, purchasing, and interior-joinery offices for projects going on in each place.
Of course, with a new building comes the need for new craftspeople. Moonen is seeking to employ project managers, carpenters, engineers, painters, and others. If you’re interested in applying, click here.
