Azimut has offered a few yachts exceeding 100 feet in recent years, with each successive launch named the new flagship. Now, it’s taking a different approach, offering what Ugo Garassino, deputy general manager, calls a “whole fleet of flagships.” It’s the Azimut Grande line, encompassing four models.
Starting with the Azimut 120 SL (above), which will be ready in a few months, Azimut will roll out the full lineup by 2013. The other models include a 100-foot Raised Pilot House, a 110-foot Widebody, and a 126 with two and a half decks. As for the 120 SL, the styling matches well with smaller yet equally sleek offerings like the 98 Leonardo, while also incorporating some individualized elements. For example, look closely just forward of the flying bridge, and you’ll see a large sunroof. You get an even better sense of it in the saloon image below. Note also how the aft-deck doors can remain open, transforming the saloon into an indoor-outdoor space.
Owners will be able to customize each Azimut Grande with the assistance of a dedicated in-house team called the Personal Design Equipe. The saloon image above and the master stateroom image below, also for the 120 SL, are intended as suggestions as to what can be done. (Regardless of the soft goods chosen, owners will no doubt enjoy the virtual wall of windows in the master.) Azimut created Personal Design Equipe because it wants to have a closer, direct relationship with its clients in all aspects, rather than have owners seek out their own interior designers. This is why the design staff will fly out to meet potential customers to learn what they want their yachts to feature and create proposals accordingly.
The Azimut Grande line is being built in Viareggio, Italy, the same location as previous models like the Azimut 116 were constructed. (Azimut’s primary headquarters in Torino cannot accommodate such large yachts.) Speaking of the 116, the owner of Vivere, Philip Rinaldi, sums up what Azimut hopes to achieve with future customers: “During the months I spent in Viareggio, it was exciting to watch my dream take shape. My blending with Azimut grew day by day, together with my yacht.”
