Marking its fifth sale in five months, Amels now has a buyer for the first of its Limited Editions Amels 199 series.
The 60-meter (197-foot) megayacht bears the distinctive styling touches of Tim Heywood. Note the gentle slope of the grey-painted hull aft and the superstructure curves forward. The design incorporates different design elements, too, such as the plumb bow, which Heywood decided to soften somewhat with a gentle curve. He likens it to that of a scimitar, the single-edge, curved sword that dates back centuries to Persian and Asian cultures.
Like all Limited Editions models, this 199 has some set parameters. She’ll feature two large VIP staterooms on the bridge deck, benefitting from excellent views. She’ll also have a tender garage forward toward the bow. This allows for a beach club aft, directly accessible via the guest staterooms.
Even with the set parameters, however, Amels permits owners to arrange some spaces as they wish. This owner is definitely taking advantage of that, having requested two fold-down balconies on the main deck near the dining room. The megayacht will also have a touch-and-go helipad on the foredeck. Up top, rather than keep the sundeck as a fully alfresco space, a midship portion is enclosed. The 12 guests can reach it via a central staircase that leads all the way down to the lower-deck staterooms. To suit his style, the owner has hired interior designer Laura Sessa, who has collaborated with Amels on a number of other Limited Editions models.
To be operated by a crew of 14 plus the captain, this Amels 199 is expected to top out at 16.5 knots. Range at 13 knots, slightly less than the 15-knot cruise speed, should be 5,000 nautical miles.
As mentioned above, this contract marks the fifth sale that Amels had made in as many months. The other yachts sold: two Amels 177s and two Amels 180s. While the yard is now at full capacity, it’s still working on new designs. In fact, it’s finalizing plans for the largest-ever Limited Editions, the Amels 242.
We’ll feature a look at the 242 when drawings are available. In the meantime, the Amels 199 is set for delivery in spring 2013.
