The Oceanic 90 from Oceanic Yachts, a new line of expedition megayachts from Canados, has found a buyer.
You may recall that Oceanic Yachts was created to address megayacht owners who prioritize fuel economy and long-range travel, plus want plenty of toy-toting space. Various sizes are offered by Oceanic Yachts. All, including the Oceanic 90, are designed by Arrabito Naval Architects. They blend elements of traditional displacement designs and planing designs. This extends the efficient fuel burn to about 14 knots, versus speeds typically a few knots slower. Canados and the dedicated Oceanic Yachts team term the hull a “displaning” hull. The “displaning” hull on the Oceanic 90 megayacht features twin steps. In brief, stepped hulls have longitudinal notches that help reduce drag and friction as the boat’s speed increases. Some stepped hulls have one notch, while others, like the one of the Oceanic 90, have two.
Oceanic Yachts started construction on the Oceanic 90 on spec. She’s the Oceanic 90 STS version, versus the Oceanic 90DiElec. “STS” means “straight shafts,” while “DiElec” designates diesel-electric power. The Oceanic 90 measures 91’2” (27.8 meters), with a 22’9” (7-meter) beam. She’s being powered by twin 1,925-hp Caterpillars, for an expected 23-knot cruise and 27-knot top end. Oceanic Yachts anticipates the Oceanic 90 seeing a 450-nautical-mile range at 23 knots. The 6’6” (2-meter) draft will make plenty of anchorages available.
To fulfill the owner’s desire for toys, the Oceanic 90 will carry a 21’4” (21.3-meter) jet tender and a Quadski, an amphibious ATV. The megayacht will further tote two PWCs. The latter will be stowed in a tender garage. The other two toys will be located on the aft deck.
Inside, a variety of woods will set the scene. The owner of hull #1 has selected limed oak, Macassar ebony, wenge, and bamboo. a VIP and two guest staterooms will be on the lower deck, as usual. However, the owner’s stateroom will be on the upper deck. It’s a particularly unusual arrangement. It also benefits from a private alfresco area. Also unusual, though growing in popularity for some Europeans, is the below-decks location for the galley. Up to four crew will take care of the Oceanic 90 and everyone’s needs.
Delivery should take place this June. She’ll make her boat-show debut at the Cannes show in September.
