Earlier this month Overmarine Group splashed a special project. She’s the eighth Mangusta 165 launched since 2007. But what really makes her special, particularly to her owner and builder, is a new designation. Overmarine Group calls her a Mangusta 165 E, with “E” meaning “Evolution.” It’s because the owner requested a number of structural changes, not just interior changes.
A number of semi-custom builders allow owners free reign on interiors and the movement of non-structural bulkheads. Typically, however, they aren’t keen on other changes, since they impact timing and cost. All Mangustas are open to customer input in every element, interesting enough.
While the changes on the 163’7” (49.9-meter) Mangusta 165 E aren’t radical, they are enough to set her apart somewhat from previous Mangusta 165 deliveries. For example, the owner wanted more seating space on the flying bridge, so the deck area was increased. He also wanted larger side ports for the main deck. Neither affected the large skylights spilling light into the main deck or the overall aggressive profile of the Mangusta 165 series.
This Mangusta 165 E also keeps true to the fast speeds that are hallmarks of all the Mangusta maxi yachts. She’s said to reach a top end of 40 knots. Power comes from triple 4,609-hp MTUs, coupled to two KaMeWa waterjets and a KaMeWa gas turbine. The megayacht builder strives to continuously improve sound and vibration control throughout the speed range, too.
Inside, the Mangusta 165 E has a multitude of woods and stonework. Among the more unusual stones is blue tiger’s eye (which, on an interesting related note, some people believe brings protection to travelers). All told, 10 woods, mother of pearl, onyx, stingray leather, and more make up the decor.
You’ll get a chance to see the decor and the rest of the Mangusta 165 E at this September’s Monaco Yacht Show.
