The newest proposal from Tankoa Yachts, the S501 is reportedly attracting some strong interest. Designed by Francesco Paszkowski in full-displacement and semi-displacement versions, S501 has garnered the attention of four buyers.
That, in turn, is raising the profile of Tankoa Yachts. It opened its doors in Genoa, Italy in late 2008. The management team calls it a “boutique shipyard.” Production solely focuses on megayachts from 150 to 295 feet (45.8 to 90 meters, respectively). It builds to both Lloyds and RINA classification as well as MCA requirements. Tankoa Yachts’ first projects were two 213-footers (65-meters), and it most recently sold a 228-footer (69.4-meter), in March. It has also performed maintenance and refits for yachts ranging from Shahnaz to Apostrophe. Plus, a multi-national team is involved, including Paszkowski and Vincenzo Ruggiero. The latter is principal of Ruggiero Naval Architects. His firm has worked with Baglietto, CMN, and more.
The Tankoa S501 project was conceived to remain beneath the 500-gross-ton threshold. She also equally emphasizes engineering and creature comforts. In fact, Tankoa Yachts solicited input from owners, captains, engineers, and surveyors for the systems installations and general arrangement. Paszkowski and hull designer Massimo Visibelli received the top “musts” to incorporate within their respective responsibilities.
Visibelli’s aluminum hull can pair with three different engine packages. In full-displacement form, the S501 should top out at 16 or 18 knots. In semi-displacement form, 27 knots should be possible. For further perspective, consider range. With the MTU package permitting the 18-knot maximum speed, the Tankoa S501 should see a 4,500-nautical-mile range at 11 knots.
Ths S501 further has a modified plumb bow. Vertical bows tend not to slap. Paired with a wide, hard chine and high freeboard, the hull design should also keep spray down.
As for creature comforts, the Tankoa S501 features a number fold-down balconies. Ones lie off the master suite, while others flank the aft deck. In addition, floor-to-ceiling glass, which additionally can slide open, lines the dining area. Of course, the S501 has a teak-lined beach club, available for use when the RIB is offloaded. And nice-size alfresco areas are devoted to dining, sunning, and relaxing. All of these put the 30’4” (9.2-meter) beam to good use. Buyers can put their own imprint on the S501, too. One idea: incorporating a pool.
The Tankoa S501 will meet Lloyds and MCA requirements.
