Another megayacht marina has opened in Europe, 16 nautical miles north of Barcelona: Mataró Marina Barcelona.
Located in the city of Mataró, the capital of Catalonia, Mataró Marina Barcelona is meant to be intimate. It has just 30 berths for yachts and megayachts between 66 and 164 feet (20 and 50 meters). It’s operated by Varador 2000, a nearby refit and repair yard (though the property is still owned by the Ports of the Catalan Government). Varador 2000’s mangement is working closely with that of the marina to assist visiting yachts with maintenance needs, in fact.
Given the target customers, Mataró Marina Barcelona offers services ranging from fuel bunkering to concierges. A helipad is also on site, as is a leisure area dedicated to crew. A nearby train takes you to the Barcelona airport, and restaurants and shops are in proximity as well.
In the coming weeks, Mataró Marina Barcelona plans to offer community-minded programs. These include children’s sailing classes. There is already a classroom-like area on the property for vocational students from a local secondary school to continue their studies in ship maintenance.
Above all, Mataró Marina Barcelona intends to boost “tourism and sailing in the Maresme region.” This, according to Xiqui Mas, president of Varador 2000. “The financial success of the marina is the financial success of the city, the region, and the country.”
