With the recent launch of Veda, a Bering 80, Bering Yachts has a new flagship. And, it renews its focus on ocean-going yachts.
The nine-year-old semi-custom builder, with construction in China and Turkey and headquarters in North Carolina, offers models starting at 50 feet (15.2 meters). Most are part of what Bering calls the Expedition Series. Each Expedition Series yacht, which includes the Bering 80, features a steel hull, significant fuel capacity, and engineering for long-range cruising.
As a Bering 80, Veda carries more than 10,000 gallons of fuel. The builder says this, with her 250-hp Cummins engines, will permit a 6,000-nautical-mile range at 9 knots. Top end should be 12 knots. Bering Yachts also says that Veda is one of the highest-displacing yachts in her size range, with volume at 470,000 pounds.
The three-deck megayacht may look rugged outside, especially with the blue and gray paint job, but is all luxury inside. Beam is 25’8” (7.86 meters), significant for Veda’s LOA. (The beam includes walkaround side decks, wise for an oceangoing yacht.) The owners requested marbles and makore woodwork, plus hand-made furnishings. Four staterooms accommodate the full party and include a main-deck master stateroom.
Generally speaking, the Bering 80 can have up to six staterooms. In addition, the area aft of the pilothouse can be for fun or purely function: fitted with a hot tub, or as tender stowage.
