It’s rare to find an entirely wood-built megayacht in modern times. Sunny Day, delivered 26 years ago, is among them. This 81-footer (24.7-meter) has gained a few more years of service thanks to a two-year refit at Baltic Yachts.
The fact that the Finnish shipyard performed the work may surprise you. After all, Baltic Yachts primarily builds performance sailing yachts. But, motoryachts are also among its offerings. Plus, it has refitted yachts before, though all but one were its own builds.
Sunny Day, which employs mahogany in her structures, actually grew just prior to arriving at Baltic Yachts in late 2014. She was 73’8” (22.5 meters). Once that was done, Baltic Yachts and Design Unlimited went about reconfiguring her general arrangement. Seven guests and three crew all received new, contemporary-style staterooms. You’ll get a look at them in the video below. Spaces from the saloon to the wheelhouse also changed, though the wheelhouse still has some old-school appeal.
Machinery replacement and upgrades were significant parts of the refit, too. Sunny Day now has more powerful MTU engines that reportedly permit speeds upwards of 30 knots. All new wiring and a number of new systems went aboard. A set of zero-speed stabilizers should enhance the experience aboard as well.
Here’s a look at Sunny Day:
