For more than 15 years, Mallorca-based Palmawatch has provided haul-outs, maintenance, refits, and related services. Due to bigger project inquiries, the company now has a dedicated project-management division. Called PalmaFits, it further expands Palmawatch’s expertise into bigger boats.
Pierre Oberon, head of Palmawatch, says that thus far, most of the team’s experience is with yachts and megayachts to 98 feet (30 meters). With PalmaFits, the service extends to megayachts measuring 197 feet (60 meters). “The new service will be a high-performance offer designed to attract discerning owners, captains, and managers of large luxury yachts who require a full competence managed refit realization program,” he explains.
PalmaFits will use independent project managers, from UK-based Scillonian Marine Consultants. These project managers will field initial inquiries and remain involved straight through sea trials. They have experience in class surveys, among other specialties. In addition, together, they will source the proper subcontractors for each refit job and present customers options based on budget and scope of work needed. Several subcontractors already regularly work on site, in fact. (Palmawatch and PalmaFits are inside the STP facility, pictured. STP is an open shipyard, which means owners and/or captains can oversee work themselves. This, as long as they use service specialists who meet certain insurance and safety requirements.)
PalmaFits has access to STP’s five TraveLifts, with capacities to 700 gross tons. The overall facilities can accommodate deep-draft sailboats as well as motoryachts.
Equally important, PalmaFits will provide fiscal reports to clients, tied to milestones achieved during each refit. In addition, it can provide Temporary Importation (TPA) exempt invoicing if your project qualifies.
The bottom line, Pierre says, “is to offer a fully transparent and distinctly professional service.”
PalmaFits officially launches today, in conjunction with the Palma Superyacht Show. Its dedicated website also goes live today.
