Seven charitable organizations will reap the benefits of IGY Marinas’ annual Inspire Giving Through You initiative next month. Equally important, you, your captain, and crew can participate alongside marina staff here in the USA and Latin America.
On June 10, IGY Marinas will host waterway cleanups, collect school supplies, feed the homeless, and more. The efforts take place near its properties in Panama, Florida, Washington D.C., and New York. This marks the second year for Inspire Giving Through You. In addition, it’s the second time this year that IGY Marinas has organized the initiative. In fact, several weeks ago, corporate and marina staff, megayacht captains, crew, and suppliers pitched in throughout the Caribbean.
IGY Marinas created Inspire Giving Through You for a simple reason. “Getting the industry excited about improving their communities not only benefits the non-profits, but also the destinations as a whole,” explains Tom Mukamal, IGY Marinas’ CEO. “This ultimately improves the quality of life in the region bringing more travelers to the area, more ‘voluntourism,’ and more economic impact.”
If you live near or are traveling to these areas, you can help:
- Montauk, New York. Staff from Montauk Yacht Club is sprucing up Montauk Harbor with the U.S. Coast Guard and Marine Patrol. The efforts benefit the Montauk Chamber of Commerce, which celebrates the annual Blessing of the Fleet on June 11.
- Jersey City, New Jersey and New York, New York. The former is home to Newport Yacht Club & Marina. The latter, meanwhile, is home to North Cove Marina at Brookfield Place. The locations are nearly across the Hudson River from each other, too. Therefore, employees are joining together with the Coalition for the Homeless. They’ll spruce up Camp Homeward Bound, in upstate New York. It provides abused and neglected children with educational and recreational summer programs.
- Washington, D.C. The team from one of the newest IGY Marinas property, National Harbor Marina, will serve breakfast to the homeless. They’re doing so with Central Union Mission. The non-profit provides food, shelter, and other services to individuals without a place to live and suffering from addiction.
- Gainsville, Florida. Employees of IGY Marina will clean up a three-mile stretch of the Santa Fe River. The effort benefits Our Santa Fe River. The organization protects the waterway and surrounding lands.
- St. Petersburg, Florida. Maximo Marina’s team will help Tampa Bay Watch clean up the shores of Tampa Bay. In addition, the two will educate residents about how recycling protects the waters.
- Fort Lauderdale and Miami, Florida. IGY Marinas has a corporate office, plus a number of official partners, in Fort Lauderdale. As for Miami, it’s home to the megayacht marina One Island Park – Miami Beach. So, employees from each are planting fruits and vegetables plus renewing the play area at the Jack & Jill Children’s Learning Center. Located in Fort Lauderdale, the center helps working families in need.
- Bocas del Toro, Panama. Children from Bahá’í Rojas, an educational institution, will get donations for much-needed school supplies. IGY Marinas operates Red Frog Beach Marina in Bocas del Toro. Volunteers will also collect donations to help the school buy a laptop and set up WiFi.
