Inspire Giving Through You: IGY Marinas Expands Community Service

IGY Marinas’ name comes from the words Island Global Yachting. But, for two days next year, “IGY” will stand for Inspire Giving through You. “You” is the key word. Inspire Giving through You is a community-service initiative in which the entire yachting community is encouraged to participate, near a variety of IGY Marinas’ locations.

Megayacht owners, captains, crew, and more are being encouraged to sign up for at least one of the two days. Those days are February 20 and June 11. The February community-service events will take place near eight IGY Marinas’ Caribbean and Latin American marinas. These include Yacht Haven Grande in St. Thomas and Marina Cabo San Lucas in Mexico. The June events will take place near its four New York, New Jersey, and Bahamian properties. These include North Cove Marina in New York City and the Marina at Resorts World Bimini in the Bahamas. June 11 will additionally see IGY Marinas and volunteers undertaking projects near the company’s corporate offices in Charleston, South Carolina, Fort Lauderdale, and New York City.

For both dates, Inspire Giving through You will see IGY Marinas partner with a non-profit in each location. That non-profit will be one serving the local community. Examples include ones focused on playground restoration, elder care, youth, and animal adoption. IGY Marinas’ employees and yachting volunteers will then participate in activities that help give back to those areas.

Tom Mukamal, IGY Marinas’ CEO, says Inspire Giving through You is deliberately coinciding with the company’s 11^th anniversary. “Guests and boaters come to our marinas to enjoy the destinations, local cultures and attractions,” he explains. “We have always included community service into our business practices, and now we have an ambitious plan to embark on our 2016 Community Outreach Project to give back to the local destinations in which we live and work.” He adds, “We hope this call to action serves as a model for the marina industry and as inspiration to others.”
