Sub-100-footers often ease owners into the megayacht market. The Azimut Grande 27 Metri, at nearly 88 feet (26.78 meters), is one such project. But, don’t mistake her size for a compromise on accommodations. The build and design teams came together to offer flexibility for larger parties than you might think, simultaneously giving you good volume.
Azimut and Stefano Righini lend the Grande 27 Metri softly rounded styling (below). It’s a departure from the sharper, more aggressive looks of some of the builder’s previous big boats. Still, though, the megayacht has sporty appeal, something true of all of Azimut’s models. In addition, and in keeping with yard tradition, the yacht promises spirited performance. The Grande 27 Metri should see 27 knots at the top end, for example, as well as 24 knots at cruise. This, from twin 1,900-hp MANs, which should also permit a range exceeding 800 nautical miles at 12 knots.
Where Azimut surprises, however, is in the interior arrangement. First, it partnered with Achille Salvagni Architetti, known for designing luxury apartments as well as much larger megayachts. The winding lines of the foyer stairway (at top) are just some of the graceful curves flowing throughout the two decks. Another surprise is finding a full-beam, main-deck owner’s stateroom. Given the 21’6” (6.59-meter) beam, this widebody design makes for strong attraction. Furthermore, it’s flooded with light due to full-height ports to each side (below).
Yet one more unexpected feature: The Azimut Grande 27 Metri offers a choice of three or four guest staterooms. This makes Azimut among the scant few builders providing bigger berth totals. Amd. with two crew cabins and two heads for your hands, too, the yacht is more like a larger megayacht.
Whatever guest capacity you choose, note that Achille Salvagni himself custom designs the furnishings. Alternately, you can opt for collections from Achille Salvagni Atelier, his limited-editions furnishings and lighting-design studio.
Woods, fabrics, tones, and textures are yours to select for the semi-custom Grande 27 Metri. Hull number one, shown here, makes her boat-show debut at FLIBS. Consider this armchair tour a small sampling of what you’ll find then.
