Superheroes come in all shapes and sizes. The owner of the newest Benetti Fast 140 launch might just be a superhero in the eyes of friends and family. Suitably, the yacht bears the name Ironman. She launched on April 19, and is on target for a summertime delivery.
The Fast 140 is a semi-custom series for an owner’s party of 12. Simultaneously, she offers fuel and performance efficiency at all speeds. Benetti’s in-house research and development team designed a proprietary hull with Pierluigi Ausonio to ensure this. Benetti calls the hull design Displacement to Planing (D2P). It significantly reduces wave resistance, which in turn reduces fuel consumption. The D2P hull reduces pitch and roll, too. And, at displacement speeds, the D2P hull cruises about 20 percent higher compared to a similarly sized displacement hull.
With twin MTUs, the yacht should see a reported 23-knot top speed. With the engines under 70-percent load, Ironman should achieve 18 knots. She should additionally achieve a range of 1,800 nautical miles at 12 knots.
Bearing a beam of nearly 28 feet (8.5 meters), Ironman follows traditional interior configurations. This puts the master forward on the main deck, for instance, along with a combination saloon and dining area. All guests, meanwhile, go below decks. The 10 family and friends get two sets of mirror-image staterooms—a pair of VIPs and a pair of twins—aft of a full-beam VIP. The owner collaborated with Alfred Karram Jr. Design Concepts to design the interior around how he and his guests like to live. Unfortunately, however, Benetti has not released any interior drawings or photos. Neither has it revealed the woods or other materials used aboard.
Upon delivery in a few weeks, Ironman will put several alfresco areas at guests’ disposal. Sure to be popular, the beach club is lined with teak. Lunches and dinners will be more special on the upper deck. Sliding glass doors just forward of it can remain open to turn the skylounge into an indoor-outdoor area. Conveniently, the skylounge also has a bar. Finally, for simply relaxing, Ironman outfits the sundeck with sun lounges, two smoking tables, a large C-shape seating area, and a bar.
