About two months after she first slipped into salt water, Botti has embarked on her maiden voyage.
Botti belongs to the Benetti Mediterraneo 116 series. In fact, she’s hull number three. You might remember that hull number two, Mr. Loui, began making memories last fall. It’s worth noting that the first launch in the Mediterraneo 116 series premiered only last year, in May. It’s also worth noting that both the owners of Mr. Loui and Botti hail from Mexico. Benetti sees the Latin American market as a strategic development, complementing its longstanding reach into the American market.
Being part of a series, naturally Botti has some features similar to her predecessors. Construction is primarily fiberglass, though Benetti uses carbon fiber composite in the superstructure. With naval architecture by Pierluigi Ausonio, her hull design emphasizes long-range cruising. Benetti says Botti should achieve upwards of 3,000 nautical miles at 10 knots, powered by twin MAN diesels. Typical cruising speed should be 14 knots, with top speed being 15 knots.
The 25-foot (7.72-meter) beam aboard is certainly ample for a megayacht of her size. Making it feel airier are the large panes of glass lining the main deck and sky lounge. The owner personally got quite involved in the interior design, to amplify this light sensation. In working with Benetti’s own in-house department as well as Radyca, Botti’s owner emphasized warm wood and fabric tones. He also requested that lighting be soft for a casual, comfortable feel.
Some of the areas the owner and guests will likely use a lot include the main deck. A bar keeps libations flowing in the saloon, which further has seating areas. When leaving their staterooms—a main-deck master, two twins with Pullmans, and two VIPs—everyone will likely head outside. Botti has three different sunning spots at the waiting. One sits on the foredeck, another sits on the sundeck, and the final one is aft on the main deck.
While Botti is off voyaging, Benetti is soon starting hull number four in the Mediterraneo 116 series. She’s for an Asian client.
