Turkey-based Mazu Yachts has had its eye on the megayacht market for some time. While it has delivered several superyacht tenders and a few bigger boats, though, it hasn’t yet built a yacht exceeding 80 feet (24 meters). That is, until it started construction on hull number one of the Mazu 82 series. That hull now has an owner, and will be on the water in a few short months.
Measuring 80’4” (24.5 meters), the Mazu 82 strives for a sporty look and a voluminous feel. Her exterior design comes from Halit Yukay, Mazu Yachts’ founder. He’s responsible for the lines of every boat from the shipyard so far, too. Angled, chiseled looks combine with big, open areas on deck. With a beam of 19’4” (5.9 meters), meanwhile, the Mazu 82 should feel plenty roomy inside, for an owner’s party of six.
Interestingly, the Mazu 82 marks the first time that Mazu Yachts is collaborating with a separate interior designer for those spaces. It turned to Tanju Özelgin, a fellow Turkish national. Özelgin and the owner of the megayacht, who also happens to be Turkish, are creating a modern, relaxing ambiance. Expect to see, for instance, subdued tones mixing with light textures. Due to the large ports to both sides in the hull, light plays a big role aboard. It does further through direct and indirect lighting. While we don’t know what woods or other materials will be onboard, the decorative treatments form a cohesive look and feel from the master on through to the VIP and the double guest cabin.
Complementing the sporty profile, the Mazu 82 should make good speeds. Triple 1,000-hp Volvo Penta IPS engines promise a hold-onto-your-hat 40-knot top speed. They also promise an equally fast, and fun, 35-knot cruise speed. All the while, the IPS units mean handling at the helm should be responsive, and the megayacht should be readily maneuverable. That should come in handy whether she’s zipping from marina to marina or pulling into a quiet, shallow anchorage. Draft for the carbon-composite yacht is just 5’3” (1.6 meters).
Mazu Yachts should hand over this hull number one in time for the owner to enjoy the summer season.
