Yachts are often likened to jewels in a crown for a yacht builder. Since she bears the scientific name for a white lily, Lilium is more like a blossom for Bilgin Yachts. Analogy aside, the shipyard has high expectations for her, especially as she premieres at the Monaco Yacht Show next week. The design and build teams consider her a fine example of all-Turkish craftsmanship.
Hull number two in the Bilgin 156 series, Lilium comes from a collaboration with Unique Yacht Design. Like her sister Nerissa (now Starburst III), she measures 156 feet (47.5 meters), further falling beneath the 500-gross-ton threshold. The steel displacement megayacht also similarly has twin MTUs for long-range cruising. Top speed should be 16 knots, with a best range around 4,000 nautical miles at 12 knots under half load.
However, Bilgin Yachts and Unique Yacht Design strove for decided differences. “After the success of Nerissa, we can’t wait to see how Lilium will affect the ones who see her,” says Emrecan Özgün, Unique Yacht Design’s founder and CEO. With the Bilgin Yacht Design Team, “we tried to imagine even the tiniest details through the look of a kaleidoscope,” he continues. “It was a challenging process to create luminous effect while deciding on proportion of each material.”
Luminous is the operative word. A glass-bottomed hot tub, for instance, spills light down through the main stairway from the sundeck (at top). It additionally illuminates a cascading glass sculpture/chandelier in the stairway’s center. A dramatic skylight benefits the master suite, too (below), which additionally has a fold-down balcony. From the saloon to the four guest staterooms and the rest of the yacht, light colors help to create an airy atmosphere.
Obviously, Lilium emphasizes owner and guest comfort, but she doesn’t forego crew needs. In afct, the galley configuration differs from Nerissa for that very reason. An island creates more prep and staging space, while a pantry separates it from the formal dining room. Overall, foot traffic should improve.
