Italy-based Sundeck Yachts builds yachts in the spirit of traditional Italian navettas (trawlers). Yet, they also have modern flair and a burst of speed. With a new office in Fort Lauderdale, it is marketing stateside for the first time. In fact, the upcoming Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show marks your first opportunity to meet the management team and see one of its yachts.
While Sundeck Yachts will have one of its smaller models, the 580 Trawler (below), at the show, it does offer megayachts. In fact, the two megayacht models are the 850 Trawler and a 38M (125-footer, above). “With a successful run since 2015 when we were founded, we have sold 18 of our 550 and 580 models,” says Angelo Casartelli, chairman and CEO. “With orders and construction already started on several of our 430 and 700 models, it’s time we bring our brand to the U.S.”
The brand focuses on all-fiberglass construction, with all molds designed in house. In addition, nearly all components are made in house. Sundeck Yachts does this across three shipyards in Italy, namely in Lavagna, Fano, and Ravenna. Because of these multiple locations, the builder can construct 10 yachts at once.
From the smallest to the largest model, each Sundeck Yachts project has family styling. Therefore, expect to see plumb bows, sharp lines, and large windows, especially below decks. Each also has a flying bridge, fitted with the customary relaxation and social areas. In addition, since Casartelli is a yachtsman himself, each of the projects emphasizes good performance. The 850, for instance, should see 24 to 27 knots at the top end, depending on which engine option you choose. Two MAN and two Caterpillar packages are available. Overall, the 850 should further see a long range of 1,200 nautical miles at 11½ knots.
Because each project is semi-custom, the 850 can have four to six staterooms. Multiple interior and exterior arrangements are possible. In fact, the foredeck alone can include a sunbed, a hot tub, a convertible dinette with a bimini, or a combination of features. Regardless, you get good stowage here, too.
Look for Sundeck Yachts at the boat show in the Superyacht Pavilion. The new permanent U.S. office is in The Quay in Fort Lauderdale.
