Edmiston, with headquarters in the UK, has had a U.S. presence in New York for a few years. It now has a second office up the Northeastern coast. The team that most recently comprised Perini Navi USA has made the Edmiston expansion and growth possible.
Bruce Brakenhoff, Jr. (above), Dirk Johnson, Rana Johnson, and Linda Janney are bringing their collective expertise in yacht sales and charter. Together, they have nearly a century’s worth of experience in these sectors. In fact, Brakenhoff, director of the new Edmiston office, has about 40 years of sales experience. Additionally, he spent the past 23 years creating and growing the Perini Navi USA office.
The same physical office, in Newport, Rhode Island, is facilitating the Edmiston expansion. Robert Shepherd, Edmiston’s president of the Americas, says, “Edmiston’s ongoing growth in the U.S. has been very encouraging, and I am excited about continuing that success by working closely with Bruce and the team.” The parties were already familiar with one another, since Edmiston has represented various Perini Navi clients over the years. On a related note, Edmiston intends to continue working with the shipyard in the coming years.
Like other brokerage, charter, and yacht-management firms, Edmiston experienced struggles this year. “The last six months have presented a number of unprecedented challenges for everyone in the yacht business, and in particular the early days of the COVID crisis were concerning,” explains Jamie Edmiston, the company’s chief executive. Further similar to other industry firms, a flurry of sales and charter inquiries began coming in as the months advanced. “The last six weeks in particular have seen us claw back our position in a very positive way,” he adds.
While the Edmiston expansion will make working with, and bringing in, American customers easier, it also complements a larger presence in North America. The company has two offices in Mexico, too.
