The first few days of June saw hull number one of the Mangusta Oceano 50 launch. It’s a major milestone for the Overmarine Group, marking the 10th metal-hulled megayacht in its history.
The yacht, signed for a European client in 2019, is the flagship of the long-range displacement Oceano line. Not only is she the 10th metal yacht, but also the 10th in just five years.
The naval-architecture studio P.L.A.N.A. Design penned the steel hull form to achieve transoceanic range. The Mangusta 50 Oceano therefore should be capable of covering 4,500 nautical miles while at her 11-knot cruising speed. Plus, the twin MTU diesel engines should allow a top speed of 16 knots.
Just like the other Mangusta Oceano projects, as well as the brand’s maxi yachts, the 50 features styling by Alberto Mancini of AM Yacht Design. He collaborated with the shipyard’s own engineering department for the exterior and interior, too. A lot of emphasis is on indoor-outdoor living, especially on the main deck. Sliding doors to each side in the saloon bring in fresh breezes and make a stronger connection to beautiful anchorages. The same is true for the sliding door fully aft.
Of course, the 164-footer (50-meter) also has a beach club. The owners and guests can enjoy the water-level views when the transom door opens, go for a swim, or indulge in the inside sauna. There’s plenty of room for the crowd to enjoy all of these, since the beach club is 732 square feet (68 square meters). Part of this roominess results from the tenders stowing beneath the foredeck’s lounge. Interestingly, that foredeck tender bay becomes a four-foot-deep (1.3-meter-deep) pool when the toys are in the water. It’s 21 feet (6.5 meters) long by 8’5” (2.6 meters) wide, with counterflow jets, too.
One more special request from the owners: four staterooms and a gym below decks. Two of the staterooms are VIPs as well. The owners have a main-deck suite with a fold-down balcony.
The Mangusta Oceano 50 launch means delivery is approaching quickly. The shipyard says the owners will have her in their hands toward the end of July.
