There’s a first time for everything, the old saying goes. A couple from the United States have just become first-time clients of Horizon. Furthermore, they signed a contract for the sixth Horizon FD80—which will have a helicopter landing area.
In fact, the area is aft on the megayacht’s boat deck. It’s a first for the series, too. Interestingly, it isn’t the first time that Horizon has incorporated a helipad on a “small” megayacht. Currently, the shipyard has a fully custom CC98 in build for a three-time customer. Horizon further engineered a helipad for an FD85 owner. All three helipads are each in keeping with the shipyard inviting clients to make a wide variety of requests, even impacting structural design.
The buyers of the sixth FD80 liked a number of the longstanding features, of course. For example, they were attracted to ability to have an enclosed skylounge and a cozy beach club. Additionally, they liked how the yacht has a hi-lo swim platform that doubles as the tender stowage spot. They also liked the accommodations plan for eight people, including themselves. Their megayacht will have three staterooms below decks and the master suite on the main deck. The master suite also has skylights.
With a yacht the size of the FD80, you might expect some areas to serve several duties. These clients have requested that a custom table in the open-plan saloon do that. The table can convert from a traditional dining table to a breakfast bar. It’s in close proximity to the galley, which has a pass-through window. Furthermore, when needed, the owners can turn the table into a work desk. When they want to take a break from their laptops, they can sit on one of the barstools lined up in front of the pass-through and chat with the chef. (The chef and three other crewmembers have their quarters aft of the engine room.)
Anticipate this FD80, with matte-finished oak and walnut, seeing delivery in the springtime, since construction is already well underway. The owners plan to put her to good use amid the islands of The Bahamas, as well as up and down both the East and West Coasts of the United States.
