Earlier this month Tankoa Yachts revealed it has a first-ever collaboration with Vitruvius Yachts for a 171-footer (52-meter). However, few details came with the announcement. Philippe Briand of Vitruvius Yachts is now peeling back the curtain on what his studio calls Vitruvius N10. Fascinatingly, the project is for first-time megayacht owners.
According to Briand, his studio received a call from a couple in November 2020. The husband and wife had chartered previously and, as many clients do, decided they wanted their own yacht. “As newcomers to yacht ownership, they had carried out extensive research on designers and asked if we could support them in their mission,” he explains. “We knew their mixture of enthusiasm and rationality would be a great match for our team.”
Enthusiasm is an understatement, since Briand says the owners sent an extensive brief just four days later. Additionally, the brief was so extensive that initially, the studio wasn’t sure every wishlist item would work within the LOA and 500-gross-ton parameters. However, “Since then, we have produced 15 versions and developed the project down to the very last centimeter to make it all fit perfectly.”
Amid the decks of Vitruvius N10, the owners and guests have six staterooms accommodating 10 people. Although still no information is available on much of the general arrangement, one deck was quite important to the owners. They wanted an extra-large sundeck with ample enclosed space. It’s for sunning as much as yoga. Herein lays a challenge, though. The more weight aloft on a megayacht, the trickier it is to ensure stability. The already-mentioned 15 versions of the design helped finalize the creature comfort needs with the technical needs. As Briand notes, “This is where naval architecture and exterior design must go hand in hand.”
The delivery date for the hybrid-propulsion-equipped Vitruvius N10 remains confidential. But, she should see 4,000 nautical miles at best cruise upon handover. Finally, the owners and guests will have upwards of an impressive 2,691 square feet (250 square meters) of terraces to stand on to watch anchorages come into sight.
